Mike Fields

Treasurer, ACG Board of Directors

Professionally, I am a Financial Advisor with a Fortune 250 company, and serve as the Treasurer for Fields Partners, LTD. My love of classical music began listening to my mother, a trained pianist, and her brother, a graduate of The Juilliard School of Music, play 18th and 19th century pieces on the family’s Steinway grand piano.

Educationally, my formal music training began when a high school choir director asked me to join his choral group after hearing me play my 12-string steel guitar with a garage rock band.  He taught me elementary music theory and helped me to arrange a French horn composition for the harmonica. All these years later I still remember how that high school teacher’s interest in me promoted a love of music and invigorated my efforts in school overall. My introduction to the classical guitar also began in high school, when I began studying with a music undergrad at a neighboring college. My musical knowledge was further expanded in college, where I continued studying music theory. I decided not to pursue a musical career, but never lost my love for the guitar.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts from Austin College, a Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin, and a second Masters from The Claremont Graduate School. As the currently longest serving board member of Austin Classical Guitar, I have had the honor of holding the officer positions of President and Treasurer (4 terms).
