If you love playing classical guitar and would like to make music with others who share your passion, then ACG’s Community Ensembles are for you! Under the direction of Dr. Joseph Williams and Anthony Mariano, there are opportunities for players of a variety of experience levels.

ACG Guitar Ensemble
Austin Classical Guitar’s premiere community ensemble. Meeting weekly on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m., the ACG Guitar Ensemble is intended for experienced players interested in performing advanced repertoire. 3 or more performances/semester – and there may be some traveling! Members should have command of scale, slur and arpeggio techniques and be fluent readers in at least first-position.

ACG Guitar Choir
This ensemble meets weekly on Sunday afternoons from 3 to 5 p.m., and is designed for intermediate players with a desire to perform beautiful music. Members should be able to read in first position, have a stable technique and interest in developing their technical and musical abilities.

Beginning Guitar Classes
ACG Community Engagement Artist Joseph Palmer leads this no-pressure foray into playing the classical guitar. No experience required! Our Beginning Guitar Class is intended for adults looking for a fun and informative introduction to playing this beautiful instrument.

Placement interviews are not required to participate in the Beginning Guitar Classes. Simply sign up here.

Placement Interviews
In August and January we hold placement interviews for new and returning members. These are informal and provide a chance to get to know you, hear you play, and provide feedback. What to prepare for placement interviews:

  • One or two pieces that you enjoy playing (not to exceed 5 minutes).
  • 1 or 2 octave major scale of your choice with I-M alternation.
  • A short sight reading excerpt in first position with simple rhythms provided at the interview

Registration
The registration fee is $150 per semester (Fall & Spring), and is due by the second rehearsal. Spring Registration includes participation in ACG Fest, which brings together guitarists from all over the region to Austin for a day of performance workshops, community-building, and an opportunity to perform the premiere of the winning piece from ACG’s annual Composition Competition.

Special thanks to our friends at the Armstrong Community Music School for their support of ACG Community Ensembles!
