Austin Classical Guitar Youth Orchestra
ACGYO is an ensemble of intermediate to advanced young guitarists. Founded in 2013 under the direction of Dr. Joseph Williams, this celebrated ensemble has performed for thousands of people in Austin’s most prestigious venues, and has premiered several new works and arrangements.
This group develops challenging programs of music to the highest artistic level. Guitarists are expected to have strong technique, reading skills, and ensemble experience. ACGYO will perform multiple concerts locally and make at least one trip per year.

Required Abilities
- Sight reading to 5th position
- Performance of standard repertoire, at or above the level of intermediate Carcassi, Sor and Villa Lobos Etudes
- Well maintained fingernails with consistent and powerful tone
Rehearsals
- Weekly rehearsals September to April
- Rehearsals will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 on Sundays
- Additional rehearsals will occur in preparation for special events
Performances
- 3-6 performances in Austin including 1-2 out of town performances (may include fundraising concerts)
- For performances, members are required to wear concert black attire. This will include black slacks or skirt below the knee, black dress shoes, black socks and a black button-down shirt or blouse (estimated cost $100).
Travel
- ACGYO will take at least 1 out of town trip a year. Each member will be responsible for all expenses including airfare, hotels, and meals. Travel dates will be confirmed by the first rehearsal. The estimated annual cost of travel is $3,000.

- To help raise money for travel, ACGYO members may be asked to perform in fundraising concerts. Excess funds will go towards materials for future ACGYO projects.
Tuition
- The tuition for ACGYO is $500/year, and includes all rehearsals, music, and complimentary admission for up to three guests at ticketed events in which the ensemble is featured.
- Tuition is due by the second rehearsal. Partial payment plans and limited scholarships are available – please inquire.
